Blood Bank Nurse

  • Acts as donor recruiter.
  • Coordinates all events and blood drives and Mass Blood Donations (MBD).
  • Arranges all aspects of the blood drive including development of marketing materials.
  • Contacts and solicits potential corporate and non-profit organizations to host blood drives.
  • Coordinates with her seniors on the staffing and volunteers for mass blood donations, preparing the event space.
  • Ensures each event brings a specific number of blood donors pre-determined by her superiors.
  • Monitors and records all metrics around the given quota and reports these back.
  • Submits report on the MBD / blood drives two (2) working days after the event.
  • Ensures adequate blood supply at all times
  • Clinically responsible for the pre, during and post donation sessions, with the care of the donors and the safety of the blood being the main priority.
  • Performs medical assessment, interviews and gets vital signs of potential blood donor.
  • Coordinates with the Pathologist and Senior Medical Technologist in charge of the Blood Bank in the care and selection of donors.
  • Files and updates all forms of donors.
  • Keeps hard copy and files the names of all blood donors bled and donors with rare blood types with complete personal data, address and contact number/person needed to facilitate tracing.
  • Keeps files of all interviewed potential donors including the donors who did not pass the screening procedure or deferred, indicating the reason why for the deferral or disapproval. Submits monthly report on this.
  • Creates and updates donor database according to agreed standard.
  • Ensures confidentiality of data and activities at all times.
  • Assists the Medical Technologist during phlebotomy and in preparing and submitting monthly blood inventory. May perform phlebotomy under the supervision of the Senior Medical Technologist.
  • Monitors implementation of hemovigilance in the hospital and submits to superiors a monthly report, per department, on indications for transfusion, units requested and given, and outcome of transfusion.
  • Graduate of BS Nursing
  • Must be a registered nurse
  • Certified training (by DOH / PRC accredited centers) on :
  • Phlebotomy
  • Donor Recruitment
  • IV Therapy
  • At least 6 months experience as Staff Nurse
  • Member of the Philippine Blood Coordinating Council
  • Good interpersonal skill
  • Proficient in the use of computer particularly in Office Word and Excel programs
  • Very good communication skills (oral and written); proficient in both English and Tagalog
  • Can start immediately
